With some of the most fertile farmland in Kent, it is not surprising that the district and its rich grasslands, hop gardens and lavender fields make a major contribution to the county’s reputation as the Garden of England.
And, thanks to local markets, farm shops and suppliers, West Kent foodies are spoilt for choice.
Keep an eye out for the great range of local craft beers produced by breweries, Westerham and Larkins and the ever growing number of local microbreweries.
A wide variety of Kent ciders and fruit juices are available, including Aronia berry juice which is grown locally in Ash. The range of fine English wines continues to expand with Squerryes Winery in Westerham and Mount Vineyard in Shoreham leading the way. Be sure to visit the vineyards where you can try a selection of locally produced and award winning wines in the beautiful surroundings of the North Downs.
Many of the local specialities can be discovered in the independent shops in the District’s main towns, local markets or directly from local producers such as The Hop Shop at Castle Farm, near Shoreham and Romshed Farm in Underriver.
